Mend America – College Coffee, Feb. 21

On Friday, Jan. 20 inauguration day, she launched a four-year campaign Mend America Official Communications. An act of vigilance and participation in democracy, Frau Fiber will be sending hand stitched patches, official communication and concerns to government officials. During on Feb. 21, this action will be brought to ��ϲ��, and Frau Fiber asks you to join her by making your own patches and stating your concerns and mailing them to government officials.

Carole Frances Lung is an artist, soft power guerilla activist, and associate professor of fashion fiber and materials at California State University Los Angeles. Through her alter ego Frau Fiber, Lung activates a vocabulary of fashion and textile production and consumption, crafting of one of a kind garments, installations, performances, and social sculpture, paying homage to labor, textile and apparel manufacturing histories and contemporary production systems.

Lung has been awarded: Kohler Arts and Industry Residency, Craft Creativity and Design Center Grant, At the Edge Gallery 400 award and Fred A. Hillbruner Artist Book Fellowship. Lung maintains the Institute for Labor Generosity Workers and Uniforms, Frau Fiber’s headquarters and experimental factory in downtown Long Beach, California.

Bring your own clothing to mend or we’ll provide all the material you’ll need to make your own cloth bag to combat the use of plastic bags! Don’t have any clothing to repair? We’ll provide all the materials and tools needed and you get to keep what you sew!

LM Wood exhibits work at the Museum of Design in Atlanta

Recursions: Material Expression of Zeros & Ones, features the work of 11 fiber artists who use digital technology in the design and execution of their printed and woven textiles. The exhibit will be on view until March 26 and is free and open to the public.

Hours: Monday through Saturday, 11 AM until 5 PM.

LM Wood, Assistant Professor of Art, has been nominated by the North Carolina Arts Council to be featured in SouthernArtistry, a showcase spotlighting the diversity and achievements of outstanding artists who live and work in the South. The registry, which is a joint effort of Southern Arts Federation (SAF) and the Center for Arts Management & Technology at Carnegie Mellon (CAMT), went online in June 2004.
