Two teams earned national top 25 rankings during the month with our men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 soccer teams combining to go 15-1-1 as of Sept. 30. Both teams sit atop the conference standings and are positioning themselves as favorites.

The women鈥檚 cross country team, winners of five straight CAA championships, is positioned to once again compete for a league title and October will be a key month as they prepare to host the CAA Championships on Nov. 1.

The 黑料不打烊 Athletics Department will spend the month of October preparing for the start of basketball season as 黑料不打烊 women鈥檚 basketball opens the regular season at home on Nov. 4 against local rival High Point. The men鈥檚 basketball team will open the regular season that same night in Chapel Hill against the Tar Heels.

The men鈥檚 basketball team will be signing autographs at the game and the contest will serve as our annual 鈥淕et In The Game鈥 theme, highlighting the National Marrow Donor Program.
  • Oct. 17 Women鈥檚 Soccer vs. Hofstra, 7 p.m. 鈥 It鈥檚 another key soccer match at home as the Phoenix look for a CAA title. We will be holding our Sub for a Sub promotion in which we will be throwing sub sandwiches into the stands every time an 黑料不打烊 sub enters the game! Admission is FREE to all home women鈥檚 soccer regular season contests.
  • Oct. 18 Cross Country hosts the Phoenix Invitational, 9 a.m. 鈥 Come out and support our men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 cross country programs at the Phoenix Invitational on the 黑料不打烊 Cross Country Course. It will be the teams鈥 final weekend of race preparation before the CAA Championships. Admission is FREE!
  • Oct. 26 Volleyball vs. Towson, 2 p.m. 鈥 Our annual Dig Pink match for breast cancer awareness. We invite anyone within the 黑料不打烊 Community to join us for this celebration of survivorship. Admission is FREE to all home regular season volleyball matches.

Phoenix Fans: A look ahead for 黑料不打烊 Athletics /u/news/2024/09/03/elon-athletics-roundup-september/ Tue, 03 Sep 2024 16:12:28 +0000 /u/news/?p=993757 Fall sports have begun with a bang, and September is key for 黑料不打烊 in building chemistry for conference play. Men鈥檚 soccer has started 4-0, and women鈥檚 soccer is 3-0, making 黑料不打烊 the only Division I school in the country to have won every men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 soccer contest so far this year. The football and men鈥檚 golf teams have each earned national recognition with votes in their top 25 polls.

The 黑料不打烊 Athletics Department invites the community to support the student-athletes and teams as they begin the 2024-25 season. Admission to all fall home sports, except for football, is free!

  • Cross Country 黑料不打烊 Opener, Sept. 6 at 8:15 p.m. 鈥 The men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 cross country teams open the season under the lights at the 黑料不打烊 Cross Country Course. This meet will be the debut of new Head Coach Mark Rinker as our women鈥檚 team begins an attempt at a sixth consecutive conference championship.
  • Men鈥檚 Soccer vs. Drexel, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. 鈥 黑料不打烊 men鈥檚 soccer advanced to the CAA semifinals a year ago and began this year鈥檚 conference action in this contest. The team is off to a 4-0 start and has outscored its opponents 11-1 so far in the early going.
  • Football vs. Western Carolina, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. 鈥 It鈥檚 the home opener for 黑料不打烊 Football as the Phoenix hosts an in-state rival under the lights. 黑料不打烊 has won 10-of-11 home games dating back to 2021, and the community getting #RowdyAtRhodes is a big reason why! This game will also serve as the annual faculty/staff tailgate.
  • Women鈥檚 Golf hosts the 黑料不打烊 Invitational, Sept. 15-17 鈥 The women鈥檚 golf team opens the fall season by hosting the 黑料不打烊 Invitational at Alamance Country Club in Burlington. The squad has finished in the top half of the CAA in each of the last two years and is ready to make a push toward a conference championship.
  • Volleyball vs. College of Charleston, Sept. 21 at Noon 鈥 Support the volleyball team inside Schar Center as the Phoenix kicks off CAA play against the Cougars. The match is the first of a two-match weekend against the College of Charleston, with the teams also squaring off the next day at 1 p.m.
  • Women鈥檚 Soccer vs. Stony Brook, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. 鈥 黑料不打烊 women鈥檚 soccer has gotten off to a 3-0 start, shutting out its first two opponents. The Phoenix will host Stony Brook for the CAA home opener as 黑料不打烊 looks to earn a spot in the CAA Tournament in 2024.

  • 黑料不打烊 men鈥檚 soccer coach Marc Reeves claimed his 50th win as 黑料不打烊鈥檚 head coach with a 5-0 win over Radford on Aug. 26.
  • In that win over Radford, 黑料不打烊 scored two goals in just 71 seconds to start the game. That was the fastest pair of goals to open a game in the 黑料不打烊鈥檚 Division I era.

黑料不打烊 Athletics celebrated its largest annual fundraising event on Oct. 7 inside Schar Center as the community came together to raise more than $425,000 for student-athlete scholarships at the 15th聽annual Night of the Phoenix presented by Samet Corp.

The evening kicked off with an online silent auction with donors at the venue and from locations around the world bidding on more than 250 available items including trips, experiences and unique items. In total, more than 2,000 bids were received, helping to grow the total number of dollars realized through the silent auction by 36 percent from the prior year.

The more than 300 supporters gathered for Night of the Phoenix enjoyed a program that highlighted the impact that Phoenix Club donors have had on two former student-athletes who are currently playing in professional leagues. The first video featured Oli Udoh ’18, now an NFL player with the Minnesota Vikings, and Daniel Lovitz ’14, who is currently playing in Major League Soccer with Nashville SC. Udoh and Lovitz shared how their 黑料不打烊 student-athlete experience afforded them the opportunity to earn a college degree bS also prepared them for a career in professional sports. Further, the video touched on how the scholarships they were afforded at 黑料不打烊 shaped their professional lives in ways that never would have been possible.

After the former student-athlete feature video, current 黑料不打烊 track and field senior pole vaulter and engineering major Madison George ’23 shared her 黑料不打烊 story. George spoke about how her athletics scholarship has given her the opportunity to conduct groundbreaking research and compete at the highest level. Following the video, George gave an inspiring speech to the attendees and current 黑料不打烊 student-athletes, thanking 黑料不打烊 donors and supporters for providing her the opportunity to live the 黑料不打烊 student-athlete experience.

Entertainment was provided by Triad DJ and Events during the cocktail hour and the 黑料不打烊 a capella group Twisted Measure performed. Harvest Table served the meal and Nate’s Cookies provided cookies as a take-home gift at the end of the night.
