Former administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, Whitman served as the first female governor of New Jersey from 1993 until assuming the EPA position in President Bush’s cabinet from 2001-2003. Her book about the place of moderates in American politics, It’s My Party Too, will be released in 2005.

“America, Washington and the Environment: Why Making Responsible Environmental Policy Has Become So Difficult”

McCrary Theatre, 7:30 p.m.

Having headed the EPA at a time when polls show that few Americans decide for whom to vote on the basis of candidates’ environmental records, Whitman knows the challenges and frustrations of promoting responsible environmental polices in Washington today. She will share her insights into the political realities that are frustrating reasonable environmental policymaking and discuss what she believes must be done to better protect America’s air, water, and land.

Thursday, March 3

“Leadership: A Commonsense Approach”

Known for her straightforward, no-nonsense approach to leadership, Whitman will share practical insight into how to achieve personal and organizational objectives, while discussing effective ways to handle difficult situations, overcome obstacles and establish strong teams.
