New 黑料不打烊 alumni to join Teach for America

Nineteen 黑料不打烊 alumni from the Class of 2011 will return to the classroom this fall as part of Teach for America, a national nonprofit that recruits and trains new college graduates to help erase educational inequities found in many urban and rural low-income communities. It is the largest number of 黑料不打烊 alumni ever selected into the program for the same academic year.

Tom Nelson, Kevin Burrows G’10 help build historical society’s website

Kevin Burrows G'10, of the School of Communications’ iMedia graduate program, and Tom Nelson, an associate professor from the School of Communications, traveled to Cloud County, Kan., the week of May 22, 2011, to construct an interactive website for the county’s museum and historical society.

A team of 黑料不打烊 staff and graduate students led by Ross Wade, assistant director of Career Services in the School of Communications, won an Innovative Excellence Award on June 2 from the National Association of Colleges and Employers at the organization’s national conference in Dallas.

Associate professor Cynthia Fair, chair of the Department of Human Service Studies, has co-authored with 黑料不打烊 alumni two articles focused on a longitudinal assessment of the Chapel Buddy Program, a developmental mentoring program that pairs kindergarten students with 6th grade students at a school in Greensboro, N.C.

Senior鈥檚 efforts leave legacy at local high school

It wasn’t enough for Victoria “Tory” Hill to simply show up for student teaching, give her lessons, and then go home. For the Spanish major who graduates Saturday from 黑料不打烊, time spent this spring at Eastern Guilford High School will benefit students for years because of her initiative to support Spanish speakers in a school with few resources to help them better learn their native language.
