Below are the specific needs and ways to get involved:

Sponsor a Child:

  • Provide toys for the child.
  • If needed provide groceries or a gift certificate to a local grocer for Christmas dinner
  • If possible and necessary, provide new winter clothing for the child.

Sponsor an Elderly Person:

  • Provide Christmas dinner either in the form of groceries, a gift certificate to a local grocer or a cooked meal.
  • Provide any other special request that is appropriate.

Donate Directly to Christmas Cheer:

  • New Toys
  • New Children’s Winter Clothing & Pajamas
  • Non-perishable food
  • Donate $$$

KCSL: Call for Male Mentors for Elementary Students! /u/news/2013/10/29/kcsl-call-for-male-mentors-for-elementary-students/ Tue, 29 Oct 2013 15:50:00 +0000 /u/news/2013/10/29/kcsl-call-for-male-mentors-for-elementary-students/ The Alamance County School System recently implemented a mentoring program geared towards elementary and middle school aged boys and male student volunteers are needed on a regular basis throughout the school week to serve as mentors. The schedule is below, though one-on-one mentoring is also available with flexible hours for those who cannot participate in the scheduled times.

Eastlawn Elementary: Wednesdays 1:20-1:50 p.m.

Andrews Elementary: Wednesdays 12:25-1 p.m.

Newlin Elementary: (days vary) 10:45-11:30 a.m.

KCSL: Junior Acheivement Bowl-A-Thon, Nov. 7 /u/news/2013/10/24/kcsl-junior-acheivement-bowl-a-thon-nov-7/ Thu, 24 Oct 2013 16:15:00 +0000 /u/news/2013/10/24/kcsl-junior-acheivement-bowl-a-thon-nov-7/ On Thursday, November 7, 2013 Junior Achievement of Central NC is hosting a Bowl-A-Thon fundraiser at Country Club Lanes West in Burlington (3010 Church Street) to support their educational programs in Alamance County. Teams of five set a fundraising goal and strive to reach their goal before the 7th.  Join other local professionals and Junior Acheivement for a night of fun!

Interested? Registration is easy! Visit and select “Join or Form a Team” on the left hand side of the page. After you register a team, your next steps are:

  • Recruit four other teammates to bowl with you
  • Set a team fundraising goal
    • For example: each bowler agrees raise $100 in donations. Why? Because a team raising $500 can provide the JA experience for up to 30 students!
  • Keep your team up-to-date on important deadlines and prize packages!
  • Collect each team member’s registration fee to bowl – $6.50/person or $32.50/team – the fee covers shoe rental and two games.

Opportunities to volunteer:

Friday October 18 at 4 – 7 PM – Set up the courts and the fields

Saturday October 19 – 8 – 4 PM – volunteer as a court assistant or help at the event

Saturday 19 4 – 5:30 PM –break down the courts and help pack up.

We need up to 30 volunteers, working from 5pm until just after 8pm. There will be pizza and volunteers are encouraged to dress up (appropriately).

Volunteers are requested to assist in face painting, set-up, greeting people and entertainment during the event.

Several organizations will be in attendance at the Community Day to share resourceful and inspirational information such as Alamance Community College, Health Care professionals, Military Recruiters, Alcohol Anonymous, etc. The church will also have their church food bank and clothing ministry available that day.

Volunteers are needed throughout the day, between 12-8 p.m. However, volunteers are welcome to come in shifts and do not need to be there the entire day if schedules do not allow.

TS Designs is a local Burlington company with a mission to build a sustainable company by simultaneously looking after people, the planet and profits. The Green Gala is meant to be an opportunity to highlight environmental and social sustainable initiatives in our local area. The event will have mini conferences, tours of the TS Designs campus and Community Tables scheduled through the afternoon.
