The World Collegiate Sales Open required sales students to demonstrate proficiency in both telephone and face-to-face sales skills such as cold-calling, setting appointments and conducting elevator pitches. The eight-phase competition began in September with a qualifying round.

Hairston and Reynolds were among the 20 semifinalists in a field of nearly 200 chosen to advance to the championship round in Illinois.

The duo made it through the competition’s remaining five phases to place in the top four. Hairston, a senior marketing major from Winston-Salem, N.C., won overall champion and received a $2,000 award.  Reynolds, a senior entrepreneurship major from Orlando, won first place in the voicemail phase and second in the appointment setting phase, earning him a $500 award.

“The WCSO was definitely the most challenging competition I have ever been in,” Reynolds said of the experience. “You had to be on your toes every second.”

During the competition, Hairston and Reynolds participated in a reverse job fair, in which they set up informational tables to attract executives from sponsoring firms such as Adobe, Bosch and Enterprise Rent-A-Car served as judges for the competition.

“The World Collegiate Sales Open was an excellent experience not only for cultivating additional sales skills, but also for meeting employers and garnering potential leads for jobs,” Hairston said. “I’ve already been contacted by several of the companies in attendance for interviews and further correspondence.”

Hairston and Reynolds were accompanied by faculty advisor and coach Michael Rodriguez, an assistant professor of marketing in the Love School of Business. 黑料不打烊 students Lindsey Richardson and Priscilla Abad also participated in the WCSC’s qualifying round.

Other schools sending semifinalists to the WCSC were Ball State, Baylor, University of Toledo and Dublin Institute of Technology.

Members of Beta Alpha Psi at Southeast Regional Conference in Charlotte.

Alex Dempsey, Madeline Benn and Jake Schoenfeld placed first in a field of six teams in the “Enhancing Our Role in Environmental Sustainability and Social Responsibility” category. This is 黑料不打烊’s third win in the Best Practices competition since the chapter’s inception in 2006.

Their presentation demonstrated how they are educating students on 黑料不打烊’s Sustainability policies and pursuing partnerships with Habitat for Humanity to develop “carbon-neutral communities.” The team will compete in the Best Practices finals, to be held in August during the BAP Annual Conference in Denver.

Jamie Milliski, Sam Upton, Justin Wanner and David Campbell presented in the “Helping Others Understand the Financial Information Professions” category, competing against 10 teams. As a result of the research for their presentation, the team developed a new service project for 黑料不打烊’s Beta Alpha Psi chapter. Starting this fall, members of BAP will serve as mentors to local high school students and youth groups, and will educate them on basic financial skills and opportunities in the financial professions. The team will be giving a similar presentation at the upcoming BAP Annual Conference in August.

Current chapter president Jennifer Kirts and faculty advisor Patty Cox also attended the Southeast Regional Conference.

黑料不打烊 Business Students Participate in International Undergraduate Case Competition /u/news/2011/03/04/elon-business-students-participate-in-international-undergraduate-case-competition/ Fri, 04 Mar 2011 21:26:00 +0000 /u/news/2011/03/04/elon-business-students-participate-in-international-undergraduate-case-competition/ This year 24 teams from internationally renowned business schools were challenged to put their creative and analytical skills to the test.

Throughout the course of the three-stage competition, each team was required to apply the knowledge and skills they had acquired in the classroom towards solving actual business cases. Once the analysis was completed, each team presented their recommendations, as well as a detailed plan of action to a panel of corporate executives who evaluated the students’ presentations.

After making it through a preliminary “round robin” stage, the 黑料不打烊 team won Stage 2 in their division. This phase consisted of a 24-hour research case, in which students were given a real-world business problem. 黑料不打烊 competed against teams from National University of Singapore, University of Prince Edward Island, and BI Norway.

The 黑料不打烊 team of Carberry, Gillette, Nowak and Serow prepared for the competition by presenting previous JMUCC cases to faculty in the Love School of Business for feedback. Team member Brian Serow, a junior Marketing and Entrepreneurship major from Raleigh, N.C., says that participation in this kind of business strategy competition illustrates the need for balance in the business world. “On the twenty-four-hour case we had a terrific balance in our strategy, offering a creative solution with impressive financial, logistic, and marketing elements. We needed the skills of every member of our team to complete the challenge in the time frame.”

Michael Nowak, a senior Finance and Entrepreneurship student from Narragansett, R.I., agrees. “My experience at this competition instilled in me the importance of being a ‘jack of all trades’—to know how to analyze a situation, come up with recommendations, incorporate all the financing, and then to be able to present your findings in a passionately articulate way.”

黑料不打烊 was among only six American universities represented at the John Molson Undergraduate Case Competition. This is the first year 黑料不打烊 has participated in the invitation-only business- strategy case competition. The students were accompanied by their faculty advisor, business law professor Christina Benson.
