The road to success has been a steady climb for Swardson, who started his career in the St. Paul/ Minneapolis area before moving on to New York and Los Angeles, where he first found success by writing “Malibu’s Most Wanted” for Warner Brothers, as well as for in the hit Comedy Central series “RENO 911!” After catching the attention of Happy Madison Productions, he quickly became a fixture in the company, writing or co-writing and producing projects as “Grandma’s Boy,” “Benchwarmers” and co-producing “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry” with Adam Sandler and Kevin James.

More recently Swardson has performed in the movies “That’s My Boy,” “Blades of Glory,” “30 Minutes or Less,” and “Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star,” which he wrote, starred in and produced. SUB, SGA announce indie dance duo Matt and Kim as fall concert /u/news/2016/10/04/sub-sga-announce-indie-dance-duo-matt-and-kim-as-fall-concert/ Tue, 04 Oct 2016 14:50:00 +0000 /u/news/2016/10/04/sub-sga-announce-indie-dance-duo-matt-and-kim-as-fall-concert/ With the semester in full swing, the Student Union Board and Student Government Association have been hard at work preparing for the fall concert. Headlining the event, Matt and Kim will join the SUB Fall Event series as they come to campus on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 8 p.m. in the Colonnades Lot to close out the semester.

Video Announcement :

Brooklyn indie dance duo Matt and Kim released New Glow, the band’s latest full length on April 7, 2015. After a hugely successful North American headline tour plus countless festival and college performances this summer, the duo are still at it – eagerly hitting the road this fall and winter.

Matt and Kim, aka Matt Johnson (vocals/keyboards) and Kim Schifino (drums), get things rolling in their exuberant style with a performance lyric video for the song “Get It”: Three minutes and seven seconds of heaven for anyone who has, or hasn’t yet, seen Matt and Kim’s legendary live shows.

With New Glow, the duo who love hip-hop and pop have made an album of undeniably catchy beat-driven anthems with hooks that just don’t stop and just won’t leave your head. “The best era of music is right now and I believe we’re doing our best work yet,” said Johnson.

“Anyone who has seen one of our shows knows we love any style of music you can have fun and get wild to,” Johnson said. “I’m not sure we were able to put that diversity on any of our albums the way we did on New Glow. While there are definitely songs that will feel familiar to people who know our stuff, there are also songs like ‘Get It’ which have always been part of who we are but went unrecorded to this point. We helped edit a lyric video for ‘Get It,’ using live footage from a handful of festivals and shows we played in the last couple years.”

The two met while attending Pratt Institute and quickly became known for their thunder-punching, melodic mix of indie and dance music. Right off, Spin said “there truly is no sound these two won’t use to support their almost religious commitment to spreading huge grins,” while Pitchfork described their quality as “melody so happily jerky and rhythms so dangerously spastic that you can practically hear paroxysmal crowds pogo-ing madly … Johnson sings, and thousands of other kids in his zip code (and others like it around the country) feel like he’s describing their Saturday nights.”

All the while they toured the globe, becoming the go-to band for raw exuberance, bombastic beats, sing-along refrains and dance-ready anthems on larger and larger scales. They’ve performed at many, many major music festivals including Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Coachella, Firefly, Summerfest, Big Day Out, Fuji, V, Pukkelpop and Ultra.

Performance Chair Taylor Obzud ’17 is so excited to welcome such talented artists to campus. “If you told me four years ago I’d be planning and executing full scale concerts, I wouldn’t have believed you,” Taylor said. “I am so excited to have such an exciting duo come to campus. I have heard great things about their shows and am excited to help create the madness later next month,” she said.

Matt and Kim join the all star lineup of artists that the Student Union Board and Student Government Association have brought to campus over the years including, the Summer Set, Misterwives, B.o.B, Ludacris, Maroon 5, Timeflies and the Chainsmokers.

All 黑料不打烊 students, faculty, staff and alumni will receive free entry to the event with a valid university issued ID.

Although the biggest, the Fall concert isn’t the only event SUB is excited about this semester. On Wednesday, Oct. 12, Food Truck Frenzy returns to campus just before fall break. For all things SUB visit!

SUB announces Drezo as the latest addition to the  Spring Event Series /u/news/2016/04/11/sub-announces-drezo-as-the-latest-addition-to-the-spring-event-series/ Mon, 11 Apr 2016 13:25:00 +0000 /u/news/2016/04/11/sub-announces-drezo-as-the-latest-addition-to-the-spring-event-series/ The Student Union Board continues to add to the lineup of artists as a part of the Spring Event Series. The latest being electronic dance music artist Drezo, who will headline “Glow Hard or Go Home,” a partnership event with Friday Night Live in Tap House on Friday, April 15 at 10 p.m.

Drezo coming to 黑料不打烊 adds to the diverse lineup of artists who have visited as a part of SUB’s Spring Event Series this past semester.

In a music scene of tiring trends and forced formulaic content, Drezo has undeniably defined his own sound; dark atmospheres and garage beats over heavy, punctuated bass lines creating a uniquely energetic dynamic with roots in the underground and the potential to devastate any dance floor.

Support from a long list of respected tastemakers including Diplo, Dillon Francis, Destructo, Porter Robinson, DJ Snake, Tchami, Major Lazer, Jauz, Zedd and The Chainsmokers has rapidly brought his bass-driven music to the masses in recent months.

Releases on OWSLA and Mad Decent in the last six months are just one indicator of his increasing popularity and further unreleased Drezo tracks have been quickly identified as his work and hotly talked about across the internet.

With DJ Hanzel and Habstrakt collaborations, remixes crafted for Destructo and Haezer in his distinct vision and many more hard hitting low-end originals stored deep in his vaults expected to surface through 2016, everybody is eagerly waiting to discover when and where the next releases will come from.

This summer Drezo is scheduled to tour the country, visiting multiple EDM events, most notably EDC New York and Orlando, as well as Hard Summer and Paradiso Festival.

SUBLive co-chair Landon Kestlinger is looking forward to bringing an EDM artist to campus as it something we haven’t had before.

“We don’t have a club scene around 黑料不打烊, and although there are some late night options on the weekend, they’re often exclusive and never with DJs as awesome as Drezo!” Kestlinger said. “My co-chair and I feel proud to bring the first glow rave to the university.”

Rachel DiCioccio, also a SUBLive co-chair, adds, “It’ll be so much fun, especially with the glow paint, glow sticks, highlighters, and free neon t-shirts.”

In addition to Drezo, SUB welcomes another EDM DJ, ADzMAN, courtesy of 黑料不打烊’s Student Run Music Agency, LimeLight. In the world of ADzMAN, darkness and music collide for an out of this world experience. Take hip-hop, electronica, and put it behind a mask that pulses to the music and you’ve got it. A pretty cool take on the electronic music scene.

At age 13, ADzMAN, otherwise known as Adam Freudeistien, began mixing and composing hip-hop beats into music for friends. He immediately fell in love with the feeling he received when the crowds cheered in anticipation for the next drop. After taking note of EDM’s rise as a genre, he was heavily influenced by its sound, and wanted to not only replicate that sound but also mold it into his own creations. While ADzMAN’s roots are in hip-hop and rap, his technique and passions evolved into an EDM sensation that clubs in NYC rave over- and more are bound to follow.

To go along with the “Glow Hard or Glow Home” theme SUB is giving out free t-shirts for the first 50 attendees, highlighters, and glow items at the door. All 黑料不打烊 students, faculty and staff will receive free entry to the event with a valid university issued ID.

As with all Friday Night Live events, free food, drinks, and a cash bar will be provided. For more information on upcoming Friday Night Live events visit !

MisterWives to headline SUB Spring Event Series  /u/news/2016/03/30/misterwives-to-headline-sub-spring-event-series/ Wed, 30 Mar 2016 13:20:00 +0000 /u/news/2016/03/30/misterwives-to-headline-sub-spring-event-series/ MisterWives will headline the SUB Spring Event Series on Friday, May 6 at 8 p.m. in Colonnades Lot.

Mandy Lee (vocals), Etienne Bowler (drums) and Will Hehir (bass) began making music together in late 2012. Lee, the powerhouse vocalist, was born and raised in Queens and acts as the band’s principal songwriter. She studied songwriting and opera at NYC’s only specialized public high school for music and performing arts, laying a foundation for her incredible range and giving her the ability to explore a wide variety of vocal styles. Lee met Hehir through a mutual friend and shortly thereafter was introduced to Bowler, a Bronx native, while the two were working at restaurants a block away from one another in Manhattan. The three shared a mutual love for music and similar aesthetic sensibilities and banded together to form the core of MisterWives. When it came to time to round out the live band, Bowler brought old friends Jesse Blum (keys/trumpet/accordion) and Marc Campbell (guitar) on board.

They played their first show together in February of 2013 and signed to Photo Finish/Republic shortly after. Although a new band, their sound was focused and self-assured, quickly earning them a slew of blog love, including early nods from Pigeons and Planes, Earmilk, Neon Gold and more. In October, the band hit the road with Half Moon Run on their first national tour. The tour ended with a two triumphant sets at last year’s CMJ before heading out for a six-week stint with American Authors & The Royal Concept. They released their debut EP “Reflections” this January and were featured as the first iTunes “Single of the Week” of 2014. The lead single “Reflections” now boasts over two million plays on Spotify as the band continue to tour in between writing and recording their much anticipated debut full length album.

SUB is very excited to welcome the unique group to campus. Adding 黑料不打烊 to its summer map, MisterWives make stops across the country at numerous festivals, most notably BottleRock Napa Valley, Governor’s Ball in New York, and Bonnaroo Music Festival in Tennessee. In addition, MisterWives hit the road later this year with Walk the Moon as a part of the Work this Body Tour.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to host a Spring Concert for the 黑料不打烊 Student Body,” says SUB Performance Chair Taylor Obzud. “As an organization, the Student Union Board is very excited to welcome MisterWives to campus, and be a part of their growth as they prepare to join the lineup of numerous festivals this summer.”

All 黑料不打烊 students, faculty, staff and alumni will receive free entry to the event with a valid university issued ID.

The MisterWives join a line up of numerous events as a part of SUB’s Spring Event Series. SUB looks forward to closing out the semester on a high note with the concert as a perfect bookend to a great year.
