Bland Speaks at Hemingway Conference /u/news/2006/01/12/bland-speaks-at-hemingway-conference/ Thu, 12 Jan 2006 19:09:00 +0000 /u/news/2006/01/12/bland-speaks-at-hemingway-conference/ Lamar Bland, professor of English, presented “Teaching ‘Hemingway and Masculinity'” at the 10th International Hemingway Conference in Stresa, Italy, early in July. His talk detailed the design for transforming a traditional curricular offering into a course to also meet the needs of Gender Studies programs. The conference was held at Lago Maggiore, which Hemingway aficionados will recognize as the place where Catherine Barkley and Frederic Henry in A Farewell to Arms make their escape from Italy into Switzerland. It is also the site for Hemingway’s convalescence from his own World War I wounds.
