Huber to present research paper on virginity and revelation at conference /u/news/2005/11/17/huber-to-present-research-paper-on-virginity-and-revelation-at-conference/ Thu, 17 Nov 2005 21:27:00 +0000 /u/news/2005/11/17/huber-to-present-research-paper-on-virginity-and-revelation-at-conference/ Lynn Huber, Assistant Professor of Religious Studies, will present a research paper at the annual meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature in Philadelphia on Saturday. The title of the paper is “Virginity in the Book of Revelation: Reflections and Responses to Roman Social Discourse.” In this paper, Huber examines the way the author of the Book of Revelation counters Roman “family values” by imagining the ideal Christian community as celibate. This imagery plays an important role in ancient and medieval Christian discussions of sexuality and gender.
