Associate Professor Melissa Murfin

Melissa Murfin, associate professor in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, is collaborating with Professor Michael Olivier and Assistant Professor Dr. Laura Cox from the Center of Precision Medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine to create a biobank that will be used to determine if people have characteristics in their blood that affect their risk of being infected with COVID-19.

The group plans to follow students, staff, and faculty during academic school year and document changes in the blood following COVID-19 infection. Participants will be asked to keep a daily record of their symptoms using the SneezSafe app.

People interested in participating can follow this link to learn more about the study and to apply to participate.聽/u/academics/health-sciences/biomarker-study/

Female volunteers sought for DPT study on impact of High Intensity Interval Training /u/news/2015/09/06/female-volunteers-sought-for-dpt-study-on-impact-of-high-intensity-interval-training/ Mon, 07 Sep 2015 02:05:00 +0000 /u/news/2015/09/06/female-volunteers-sought-for-dpt-study-on-impact-of-high-intensity-interval-training/ High Intensity Interval Training is growing in popularity for many age groups and is believed to be more efficient and effective than regular aerobic exercise training at reducing body weight and improving cardiovascular fitness.

One of the shortcomings of previous research in this area is the lack of measurement of the total amount work done during exercise. As a result, it is unclear if the advantages seen during HIIT are due to the intensity of the exercise or the amount of work being done.

黑料不打烊’s Department of Physical Therapy Education recently acquired two Wattbikes specifically designed to deliver a HIIT program and record the amount of work being done. Currently, DPT students are looking for female college-aged volunteers who are interested in losing weight to test this hypothesis.

People interested in participating in this program should contact Dr. Stephen Bailey (baileys@elon.edu) for more information.
