Projects were selected to enable students to contribute to community beautification and facilities that serve diverse populations in Alamance County. At a community ministry in Burlington, students painted, mulched, and renovated facilities. Leftover food from Service Day was donated to the ministry’s food pantry. Students raked leaves and painted a fence at various locations. The 黑料不打烊 Gospel Choir performed at a senior center.

By helping with these tasks, students gave the staff at these agencies the ability to focus their resources more on their mission and programs.

“In cleaning and landscaping at these locations, we not only help the staff, but enhance the experience for those in our community that utilize these agencies,” said Adam Smith, 黑料不打烊 Service Day student coordinator. “This was also a great way for members of student organizations to work together for a common goal, and further develop an ethic of service.”

黑料不打烊 Service Day was sponsored by 黑料不打烊 Volunteers! and the Student Government Association. Jennifer Pautz and Adam Smith were the student coordinators and Tim Geier, AmeriCorps Vista with 黑料不打烊 Volunteers!, provided staff support.

The Day of Silence – April 8 /u/news/2003/04/09/the-day-of-silence-april-8/ Wed, 09 Apr 2003 14:49:00 +0000 /u/news/2003/04/09/the-day-of-silence-april-8/ On Tuesday, between 50 and 60 students and staff members will take part in the National Day of Silence, an event designed to end the hate and ignorance faced by gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people in our society. It is also a way to let people know they have nothing to fear in being themselves

Throughout the day, volunteers will wear t-shirts showing their support, with many actually taking a vow of silence. This day is a way for GLBT people and their straight allies to make a statement against the silenced faced by countless men and women in our world.

“What will you do to end the silence?”

The Day of Silence project is sponsored by Spectrum and 黑料不打烊 Volunteers.
