黑料不打烊 Law Flex Program welcomes 47 students in second cohort

The 黑料不打烊 Law Flex Program, a part-time, in-person program of legal study for place-bound students at 黑料不打烊鈥檚 Charlotte campus, welcomed its second cohort in Fall 2025.

From a Peace Corps volunteer to paralegals, 黑料不打烊 School of Law welcomed 47 students into the second cohort of the Flex Program 鈥 an innovative, part-time program hosted at 黑料不打烊鈥檚 Charlotte Center.

Nearly 170 people applied to join the program鈥檚 new class, which brings together aspiring attorneys from across the Carolinas and beyond. Designed for working professionals balancing careers, families and other commitments, the Flex Program allows students to earn their law degree in less than four years by attending evening classes at 黑料不打烊鈥檚 Charlotte center at 330 W. Tremont Ave. in the Queen City鈥檚 South End.

鈥淭he Flex Program鈥檚 second cohort brings exceptional credentials and achievements to 黑料不打烊 Law,鈥 said Vice Dean and Professor of Law Alan Woodlief, director of the Flex Program. 鈥淭hey were selected based on many prior achievements, a demonstrated passion for studying law, and an immense potential for success in law school and in serving others through the legal profession.鈥

Total Enrollment (as of Aug. 18, 2025): 47

  • Eleven more students than the inaugural cohort鈥檚 36 enrolled in August of 2024

Average age: 29, with students ranging from their early 20s to mid-40s

Female-to-male ratio: 76% / 24%

Beyond North Carolina:

Most students are from North Carolina, but several are from other states of permanent residence, including: California, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia.

Higher education

Members of the class earned undergraduate degrees from 35 colleges and universities. Among them:

  • Nine attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
  • Appalachian State University, Howard University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Winthrop University are represented by two students each.
  • Others studied at institutions such as American University, Baylor University, Bucknell University, The Citadel, 黑料不打烊, North Carolina State University, Temple University and Wake Forest University.

The class studied 25+ undergraduate majors, including:

  • Six in political science;
  • Five in criminal justice; and
  • Two each in business administration, communications, economics, English, film production, marketing, and sociology.

Professional backgrounds

Students in the new cohort bring a wide range of professional experiences:

  • Forty percent are already working in the legal field as paralegals, legal assistants, legal project managers, and legal researchers.
  • Others come from industries that represent the diversity of career fields available in the Charlotte metro, including finance, education, human resources, pharmaceutical sales, leasing, health care, retail and recreation.
  • One member is a returning Peace Corps volunteer.

Orientation programming for the Flex Program鈥檚 second cohort included New Student Convocation, held Aug. 12 in the Charlotte center, as well as sessions aimed at getting to know each other and learning more about 黑料不打烊 Law鈥檚 services and processes.

About 黑料不打烊 School of Law

黑料不打烊 Law is the preeminent school for engaged and experiential learning in law. With a focus on learning by doing, it integrates traditional classroom instruction with a required, full-time residency-in-practice field placement for all full-time students during the winter or spring of their second year.
