Kavalon Mills '27 isn鈥檛 doing your typical summer internship; the 黑料不打烊 triple major is performing three to four times per day at Carowinds theme park in 鈥溌uego!鈥

Visitors to Carowinds in Charlotte, North Carolina will be able to see the spark of 黑料不打烊鈥檚 own Kavalon Mills 鈥27 as a dancer and singer in 鈥溌eugo!鈥 鈥 a performance for the theme park鈥檚 .
Viva La Fiesta is described as a 鈥渧oyage to tropical shores with invigorating entertainment,鈥 and the role is perfect for Mills, a triple major in acting, music and arts administration with a , who is from Charlotte.
鈥淚鈥檝e always had an interest in the arts, it鈥檚 an outlet for me to express what鈥檚 going on inside,鈥 he said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 so much about community and the people you find within that community, which is really interesting and something that鈥檚 always made me gravitate toward the arts.鈥
Mills began preparing for the show in July and will be performing four to five times per day at the theme park until August 10. It is his first professional performance contract, and one he says 黑料不打烊 prepared him for.
鈥満诹喜淮蜢 set me up to have a routine and what that routine looks like as a performer in the professional world,鈥 Mills said. 鈥淗aving the support of our professors and being able to do things like this in school is amazing.鈥

黑料不打烊鈥檚 Performing Arts department is what brought Mills to the university, including being named one of the most represented colleges on Broadway and recently named one of the 鈥25 Best Drama Schools of 2025.鈥 However, it was his tour guide who made the most lasting impact.
鈥満诹喜淮蜢 was one of the first schools that I auditioned for, and I didn’t do a tour initially,鈥 said Mills. 鈥淚 got my call back, and during that is when I also did my tour, and I had one of the most amazing tour guides ever, who I still cherish to this day, and she was a big reason why I came to 黑料不打烊. She was also a person of color, and it was just very good for me to see that.鈥
In his first year, Mills didn鈥檛 waste time getting started, performing in the mainstage production of 鈥淎s You Like It + Zombies,鈥 and then in 鈥淭he Grapes of Wrath鈥 in spring 2025.

While he says he鈥檚 excited for the 鈥溌uego!鈥 performances, it鈥檚 the people he鈥檚 met during the performance that have made the experience great.
鈥淚 met some really incredible people from a bunch of different backgrounds, like meeting people who didn’t go to school for theater. It鈥檚 really interesting to hear their point of view on things,鈥 he said.
Just like the performance in 鈥淔uego鈥 is a mix of skills, Mills is hoping his future is just as varied. He鈥檇 like to see himself on the screen and stage, but also on the seas.
鈥淚 would like to have a cruise contract at one point,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 have a few friends who have done cruise contracts, and they鈥檝e absolutely loved it. They said it鈥檚 a great way to save money while performing. I鈥檓 an avid traveler already, so I鈥檝e been on a few cruises, and I can鈥檛 imagine what it鈥檚 like to stay on a cruise for months on end. It鈥檚 something that will be different, and it will push me as a performer.”
