Finding purpose through service: Kyla Maxwell鈥檚 journey with the Kernodle Center

Maxwell says 黑料不打烊's Kernodle Center for Civic Life created an environment where she could grow, lead and thrive.

Kyla Maxwell ’25 has become a familiar and inspiring presence within the Kernodle Center for Civic Life. What began as a search for connection quickly evolved into a transformative journey of leadership and service. Feeling initially disconnected from campus life, Maxwell found a true sense of belonging and purpose through her involvement with the Kernodle Center.

Throughout her time at 黑料不打烊, Maxwell served as a shift coordinator for Habitat for Humanity and currently leads with distinction as the executive director of collaboration and outreach. Her commitment to civic engagement has not only shaped her 黑料不打烊 experience but also left a lasting impact on those around her.

Of all the memories she has made, one moment with Habitat for Humanity stands out. After completing a home build with her team, Maxwell had the opportunity to meet the future homeowner.

鈥淚t helped me realize how close our impact was,鈥 she said. The experience deeply moved her, reinforcing the tangible difference that service can make.

Maxwell expresses heartfelt gratitude to the Kernodle Center staff, who she credits with creating an environment where she could grow, lead and thrive. Reflecting on her personal development, she highlights the leadership skills she has gained through her various roles鈥攕kills that she will carry forward into her next chapter.
