黑料不打烊 Cares benefit cabaret to raise money in fight against AIDS鈥

An annual fundraiser co-hosted by students in the Department of Performing Arts and 黑料不打烊鈥檚 Gender & LGBTQIA Center will take place Jan. 15.

Students in the Department of Performing Arts will entertain audiences and raffle prizes this week in support of a national nonprofit that helps people secure health care, counseling, and financial assistance in their battles against HIV/AIDS.

In partnership with the university鈥檚 Gender & LGBTQIA Center, the 黑料不打烊 Cares benefit cabaret will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 15 with two shows at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. in Yeager Recital Hall, in the Center for the Arts.

The performance supports聽, one of the nation鈥檚 leading industry-based, nonprofit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organizations.

Prizes from previous years have included tickets to see Broadway shows, signed Broadway playbills and posters, and one-on-one online coaching sessions with alumni.

鈥満诹喜淮蜢 Cares is such an incredible opportunity for students to present innovative ideas, collaborate with their creative peers and put on an incredible performance to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS,鈥 said Ella Huestis 鈥25, a music theatre major from Dallas, Texas. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a great way to get involved on campus and is always such a fulfilling process.鈥

The annual student-led program has taken place for nearly two decades and in recent years, performing arts students have partnered with the Gender & LGBTQIA Center to magnify their success. More than $2,000 was raised in both 2023 and 2024.

鈥淚t鈥檚 been a steady event at 黑料不打烊 for over a decade now, but since our partnership with the GLC, we have only seen it blossom,鈥 said Derick Donato Roberto 鈥25, a musical theatre major born聽in Puerto Rico and raised in New York.
