Lynda Butler-Storsved, senior lecturer in wellness in the Dr. Jo Watts Williams School of Education, presented her research, titled “A聽Functional Movement Warm-up’s Effect on 9th Graders’ Movement Quality,”聽at the 2022 SHAPE America National Convention held in New Orleans.
According to the , the purpose of this study was to investigate dysfunctional movement among a group of ninth grade physical education students and to determine if a standardized, functional movement warm-up (FMWU) would improve movement quality more than a regular physical education warm-up.
“The findings of this study suggest there is a high rate of dysfunctional movement among ninth grade adolescents and an intentionally designed FMWU is an efficient way to address movement quality in physical education,”聽the researchers concluded.
