Brittany Willis L鈥22, Cassandra Saxton L鈥23, and Elliott Millner L鈥23 were recognized for entries in a Black History Month contest that challenged participants to reflect on their roles as students and future lawyers in the antiracism movement.

Three students have been honored in an annual essay competition聽co-sponsored by 黑料不打烊 Law鈥檚 Antiracism Working Group and 黑料不打烊鈥檚 Center for Writing Excellence.

The second annual 鈥淔ire This Time鈥 Black History Month Essay Competition asked students to reflect on the current antiracism movement, how Black people will be impacted, and what role they as future lawyers play in the movement.

The competition theme was based again this year on James Baldwin鈥檚 work,聽,聽and Angela Onwuachi-Willig鈥檚 2020 column聽

鈥淚 am thrilled to see our students continuing to connect with the themes in Baldwin鈥檚 work, as well as Dean Onwuachi-Willig鈥檚 call to use the law as a tool of change,鈥 said Assistant Professor Tiffany Atkins L鈥11, a faculty member in 黑料不打烊 Law鈥檚 Legal Method & Communication Program and the competition鈥檚 organizer. 鈥淭his year鈥檚 winners responded to the call via personal reflective letters, which our judges found both 鈥榩owerful鈥 and 鈥榤oving.鈥
