Dear members of the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ community,
I am saddened to share that student Will Stoneman died yesterday at his family’s home in St. Louis, Missouri. Will enrolled at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ this fall as a first-year student and was the son of Mark and Jill Stoneman.
As we mourn the death of our friend, student, and classmate, there are university resources available to help. ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Student Life staff members have been reaching out to support Will’s suitemates, friends, classmates, and faculty members. Chaplains and counselors will be available today, Tuesday, September 21, from 4-5:15 p.m. in the McBride Gathering Space of the Numen Lumen Pavilion for anyone who would like to connect in person. A community moment of remembrance for Will’s life will be held at 5:15 p.m. in the McBride Gathering Space.
Other resources to discuss feelings of loss or concern for others include university chaplains in the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life at 336-278-7729, staff with Student Care and Outreach in the Office of the Dean of Students at 336-278-7200, or counselors from Counseling Services at 336-278-7280. Individuals can always access the 24/7 resources from the crisis counselor on-call at 336-278-2222 or the Student Life administrator on-call through Campus Safety and Police at 336-278-5555. Faculty and staff may also utilize ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Work-Life Resources for support.
The sudden death of a student is a heartbreaking loss. Please keep Will’s family and friends in your thoughts at this challenging time and continue to care for each other in the days and weeks ahead.
