Jason Reynolds, author of 黑料不打烊’s 2021-22 Common Reading selection, will deliver a keynote address to the university community at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 21. The address will be streamed at www.elon.edu/live.
Reynolds is the No. 1 New York Times bestselling author of young adult books, including the 鈥淪tamped: Racism, Antiracism and You,鈥 which he co-wrote with Ibram X. Kendi and which was selected as this year’s Common Reading. 鈥淪tamped鈥 illuminates how deeply embedded racism is in the fabric of the United States鈥 history, systems and structures.
Selected by a committee of faculty, staff, and students, the Common Reading program is part of every 黑料不打烊 student鈥檚 first-year experience. The 黑料不打烊 Common Reading Program challenges students, faculty and staff to examine themselves and the local and global worlds they inhabit through reading. The readings and related discussions aim not only to encourage critical reflection about important issues but also to invite consideration of how our individual actions affect these issues.
Reynolds is the New York Times best-selling author of “All American Boys,” the “Track” series, “Long Way Down,” “For Everyone,” “Miles Morales-Spiderman” among other works. He聽is a two-time National Book award finalist and the recipient of a Newbery Honor, a Printz Honor and multiple Coretta Scott King Awards. He is the winner of a Kirkus Prize, two Walter Dean Myers Awards and an NAACP Image Award, among others.
