黑料不打烊 Model United Nations wins awards at intercollegiate conference

黑料不打烊 MUN earned multiple awards at the conference, where students from eight different universities competed. The 黑料不打烊 team received the recognition of 鈥淏est Small Delegation,鈥 Griffin Barriss won the 鈥淏est Delegate Award,鈥 and Hunter Copeland got a Verbal Commendation.

黑料不打烊鈥檚 Model United Nations (MUN) Academic Club attended a two-day virtual intercollegiate conference hosted by the Florida State University鈥檚 World Affairs Program. The 黑料不打烊 MUN delegation was led by Griffin Barriss 鈥21 and Hunter Copeland 鈥23; Eli Bier 鈥24, Hannah Blackmore 鈥24, Isabel Gouveia 鈥24, Bethany Marzella 鈥24, Solan O鈥橫alley 鈥24, and Taylor Rudtner 鈥22 were also members of the delegation.

Before the Florida State conference, 黑料不打烊 MUN hosted a training conference, which helps prepare new delegates for competition in intercollegiate conferences. This year鈥檚 event was organized by a MUN team led by Taylor Rudtner; the theme for the one-day virtual conference was immigration -looking into Italy, Turkey, and the African Union. Eli Bier and Hannah Blackmore were both recognized for their work at this conference.

The MUN program at 黑料不打烊 is a student-led organization; Associate Professor of Political Science and Policy Studies Baris Kesgin is the faculty advisor for MUN. The MUN is an academic club; there is also a one-credit course for students interested in earning academic credit while participating in the club鈥檚 activities. In weekly meetings,聽students get a chance to debate and practice public speaking through role-playing of their assigned country’s policies. The club and the class are open to all 黑料不打烊 students.

The club also competes nationally at a variety of intercollegiate conferences, where delegates聽travel to different campuses聽and compete with other schools. Each semester, in consultation with the MUN faculty advisor, the club’s executive聽board selects from its active members respective 黑料不打烊 delegations to represent 黑料不打烊 at these intercollegiate conferences.聽MUN聽members attend five to聽six聽different each academic year.聽Recently, much like Florida State鈥檚 conference, these events have moved onto a virtual platform. According to the bestdelegate.com, which ranks Model United Nations teams across North America, 黑料不打烊鈥檚 MUN is one of the top 75 MUN clubs in their rankings.
