Associate Professor Catherine Wasson and Professor Sue Liemer authored sections of the newly released third edition of the American Bar Association鈥檚 鈥淟egal Writing Sourcebook.鈥
Two 黑料不打烊 Law professors helped with book chapters in the most recent edition of what has been described by its executive editor as 鈥渢he primary reference source for those designing, directing, and teaching in legal writing programs.鈥
Associate Professor Catherine Wasson, director of Upper-Level Writing at the law school, and Professor Sue Liemer, director of the Legal Method & Communication Program, contributed to
First published in 1997 and updated in 2006, the newest book focuses on topics such as innovation, formative assessment, teaching students with disabilities, inclusivity and wellness.
Wasson wrote a section on ABA standards that guide legal writing, and Liemer wrote a section on writing across the curriculum, for the chapter titled 鈥淥verview of Legal Writing in Law Schools.鈥 Wasson also wrote a section on incorporating writing into other courses for the chapter titled 鈥淒eveloping a Comprehensive Legal Writing Curriculum.鈥
Wasson joined the 黑料不打烊 law faculty in 2008 as its first director of Legal Method & Communication, and she has taught Appellate Advocacy, Torts, and Family Law. Wasson began her teaching career in 1992 and is co-author of “A Practical Guide to Legal Writing & Legal Method,” now in its sixth edition.
Liemer joined the 黑料不打烊 Law faculty in 2017 after directing the Lawyering Skills Program at Southern Illinois University School of Law. She took over the program from Wasson, who then developed 黑料不打烊 Law鈥檚 upper-level writing program to complement the first-year writing curriculum.
Both faculty members have been leaders over the years in the Association of Legal Writing Directors and the Legal Writing Institute.
