Night of the Phoenix celebrated ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ's student-athletes and raised more than $350,000 for athletic scholarships.
Hundreds of supporters of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Athletics spent an evening to remember inside Schar Center, raising more than $350,000 in one night for ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ athletic scholarships at the 13th Annual Night of the Phoenix presented by Samet Corporation.
The evening began with a silent auction, featuring a robust selection of more than 325 exclusive items for bid both in-venue and online. The silent auction garnered more than 1,600 bids worldwide.
Some of the most popular items for auction included tickets in top-notch seats to a three-game series at Yankee Stadium, selling for $5,500; the London Soccer Experience packing, including flights, a hotel stay and tickets to an English Premier League match for $4,200; and a round of golf at Sebonack Golf Club, in Southampton, New York, which accrued more than 40 bids during the event and was one of several items to sell for more than $3,500.
Supporters heard from three ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ student-athletes during a live panel discussion at the event. Women’s soccer player Breanna Mitchell ’20, volleyball player Bella Seman ’21 and football player Davis Cheek ’21 discussed the merits of the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ student-athlete experience with Assistant Director of the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ News Bureau Patrick Wright.
The audience also heard from current and former student-athletes in two feature videos at Night of the Phoenix. In an alumni spotlight, football alumni Scott Riddle ’11 and Eric Ludwig ’10 discussed how their athletic scholarships impacted their future careers as members of a NASCAR pit crew. In a second video, current student-athletes Greg Liggs, Jr. ’19 of the football team, women’s basketball’s Saadia Munford ’21 and track and field’s Skylar Barthelmes ’20 talked about how their athletic scholarships have shaped their ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ experience both as students and athletes.’
Following the panel discussion, auctioneer Matt Holiday led the audience in a live auction on the floor of Schar Center, raising more than $100,000 for athletic scholarships.
Harvest Table Culinary Group served a delicious meal at the event, which was bookended by a live performances from The Magnificents.
