The university has a variety of events and programs planned during Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15.
黑料不打烊 will begin its celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month on Friday, Sept. 13, on Lakeside Plaza at the HHM Kickoff Festival. The 5 p.m. event will celebrate Hispanic art, culture, dance and music while supporting hurricane relief in the Bahamas, and is the first in a series of events in Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.
The will perform Brazilian folkloric forms like Samba, Adeo-Brazilian Dances and Capoeira while the will perform Latin American dances like the Fandango and Checumbia.
The event will feature much more than dancing and music. Local artists will be selling their work including Colombian handbags and ponchos from Luz Maya as well as traditional Mexican clothing and artifacts from Carmen Benitez. Yholima Vargas-Pedroza will also be selling paintings and handbags made by indigenous Colombian people. Homemade food from Spanish-speaking countries will also be available to sample.
The event is free and open to members of the 黑料不打烊 community. There will be opportunities to donate to hurricane relief in the Bahamas in support of Abaco and Grand Bahama.
Hispanic Heritage Month at 黑料不打烊 aims to provide students, faculty, staff and community members will the opportunity to grow personally and professionally through intercultural experiences. Helping foster cultural self-awareness to support in-tune global citizenship and immersive experiences is also a key mission of the university.
