A look ahead at the events surrounding the Oct. 18 inauguration of Connie Ledoux Book as ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ's ninth president.
The university community is invited to gather on Friday, Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m. for “Celebrating ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s Past, Present and Future,” an event that combines a dramatic reading recounting significant milestone’s in the university’s history with performances by a variety of students and faculty.
Whitley Auditorium, which opened in 1924, will provide the backdrop for a broad range of performances that will highlight the university’s history and showcase the talents of members of the university community.
A variety of narrators will deliver selections from “From a Grove of Oaks: The Story of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ,” written by George Troxler, professor emeritus of history and university historian. Those selections will offer looks at the history and stages of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ, the first student organizations, the talents of students past and present, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s Greek life, the growth of the university and modern ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ.
Interspersed throughout the program will be musical selections performed by faculty and students from a variety of genres.
“Celebrating ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s Past, Present and Future” will be another opportunity during an important milestone in the university’s history to celebrate the people, resources and connections that make ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ the strong community that it is.
