ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ to reschedule events impacted by Hurricane Florence

Other events slated for this week will take place as campus operations and classes resume. 

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ continued its return to normal operations on Monday as students, faculty and staff arrived back on campus, with classes to resume Tuesday. 

Hurricane Florence, which devastated the coast of North Carolina and South Carolina during the past several days, had much less impact on ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ, but did lead to the cancelation of a number of previously scheduled events. The university is now in the process of rescheduling these postponed events for later in the academic year. Among the events canceled due to the storm: 

Common Reading Lecture with author Kristen Green: Green had been scheduled to deliver a lecture on Wednesday, Sept. 12, and participate in question-and-answer sessions with students. Her lecture and Q&A sessions will be rescheduled for spring semester. 

: Scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 13, this event featuring world-renowned attorney Alan Dershowitz will likely be rescheduled for later this fall. 

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Call to Honor: An ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ tradition, this ceremony originally scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 13, instills in first-year ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ students the virtue of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s Honor Code. It will be rescheduled for later this fall. 

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Athletics: The hurricane caused , including ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Football’s planned game against William & Mary on Saturday, Sept. 15. ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ men’s soccer, which saw a number of matches canceled, a for Tuesday, Sept. 18. ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ volleyball, which also saw several matches canceled, for Tuesday, Sept. 18. Collaborations Quartet: Scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15, this concert featuring ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ faculty has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in Whitley Auditorium. 

Hispanic Heritage Month Kick-off Festival: Scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 18, but postponed, this event sponsored by ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s El Centro de Español to launch the month-long celebration of Hispanic culture and heritage will be rescheduled. 

Other events at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ on the calendar for this week will continue to be held, with the local effects of Hurricane Florence subsiding. Be sure to turn out for these academic and social highlights including: 

Tuesday, Sept. 18: College Coffee will be held 9:40 to 10:20 a.m. in McKinnon Hall.
