Program gives struggling readers a chance to purchase books

黑料不打烊 students pair up with elementary students to pick out books.

黑料不打烊’s “It Takes a Village” program was featured in a Times-News article that focused on an annual initiative to get news books in the hands of struggling readers.

The Village program, developed by Associate Professor Jean Rattigan-Rohr, paired 50 elementary school children with 黑料不打烊 students majoring in elementary education. Together they picked out books. Each of the children had a $45 gift card to spend at Barnes & Noble in Alamance Crossing.
