Game summaries for Oct. 9 & 10
Women’s Lacrosse
黑料不打烊 vs. Clemson (A), 15-6 (Win)
黑料不打烊 vs. Clemson (B), 7-10 (Loss)
黑料不打烊 vs. West Virginia University, 6-4 (Win)
黑料不打烊 vs. Virginia Tech, 4-10 (Loss)
Beginning the SoCon tournament, 黑料不打烊 took on Clemson-Purple. Although 黑料不打烊 struggled in the beginning and only led by one point at the half, they brought it together for the second half. Clemson was held at bay, with 黑料不打烊 pulling far ahead of the opposition in the second half of play. 黑料不打烊 was able to carry out a successful first win of the tournament, dominating on breakaways and having a strong offensive presence.
In the second game of the day, 黑料不打烊 needed to come out strong. They held tight and remained within one point of the Clemson B Team throughout the entire game, ultimately losing to sloppy mistakes and lack of communication. The high point was 黑料不打烊’s strength in the midfield, as their midfielders were able to outrun much of the Clemson defense, allowing offense to capitalize on the Clemson errors.
Ranked fourth in the tournament entering the second day, 黑料不打烊 received a bye in the first round and were to play 5th ranked West Virginia in their first game of the day. In a VERY physical game, 黑料不打烊 overcame an initial deficit to maintain possession for the majority of the game. Their midfield dominated in many crucial checks throughout the center of the field, and consistently won the ball off the draw. While mistakes were made, 黑料不打烊 had every right to be very proud of the stamina and hustle provided by the team.
Advancing in the tournament because of their win against West Virginia, 黑料不打烊 was set to face top seeded Virginia Tech in the semi-finals. Holding them to only one point in the first ten minutes of the game, Tech managed to capitalize on 黑料不打烊’s slightest mistakes, creating a lead for themselves. In the second half, 黑料不打烊 was able to get many more offensive opportunities, scoring three of their four total goals. While they finally got their playing organized and under control, it was too late in the game and 黑料不打烊 lost to a very, very talented team.
Tennis
黑料不打烊 vs. High Point University, 9-7 (Win)
Coming into the match, 黑料不打烊 was expecting a good but not too difficult game. They were surprised to have the need to play harder than expected, but through the elite play of the girls on the team, Club Tennis was able to pull out the victory. All of the women’s singles games were won by 黑料不打烊 players, ultimately securing the overall win for the team.
Women’s Basketball
黑料不打烊 vs. Wake Forest, 36-50 (Loss)
黑料不打烊 vs. Wake Forest, 59-61 (Loss)
黑料不打烊 came out strong in the beginning of the game, holding wake scoreless for the first 10 minutes of the game. During a Wake timeout, their coach hyped them up and they came back to get a lead on 黑料不打烊. This drastic change was hard on 黑料不打烊, leaving many players with their heads down in disappointment. At half time they tried to regain the intensity and confidence that they began the game with, but unfortunately was not able to overcome. 黑料不打烊 went back in the second half and just could not seem to produce on the offensive end and weren’t boxing out. The result was a loss to Wake 36-50.
With a fresh set of 9 players, 黑料不打烊 once again came out very strong in the first half. Offensively, they were doing much better than the previous game but Wake was producing just as well. It was a hard-fought game for both teams, with the game remaining close for its entirety. 黑料不打烊 was down by 6 in the last few minutes and were able to get 3 more points back by getting the ball back through full court man. Unfortunately, they fell short in the end and lost 59-61.
Women’s Soccer
黑料不打烊 vs. High Point University, 2-0 (Win)
黑料不打烊 came out very strong offensively in this weekend’s game. This game was one of the first the semester where passes were connecting and it was obvious that the 黑料不打烊 team had been practicing hard together. Despite the fact that teammates are still learning the playing styles of each other, 黑料不打烊 was really playing the game as a cohesive unit. The first goal came off of a great combination down the left side of the field, with Gardner Allen following through on her run and getting the ball into the back of the net. Shortly before halftime, Bri Taft shot a beautiful ball far post, past the outstretched High Point goalie. Marshall Babcock in goal and the rest of the 黑料不打烊 defense held strong for the remainder of the game, holding High Point to no goals and winning the game 2-0. It really was a team victory for 黑料不打烊 this weekend, with all players contributing to the end result.
Softball
黑料不打烊 vs. UNC W, 4-12 (Loss) 6-7 (Loss)
黑料不打烊 played tough in 2, 4-inning games against the visiting Seahawks. Alanna Vagianos pitched the first game, and Kim Wisniewski pitched the second with Kirsten McCormick catching for both games. The team put forth great effort with hopes of continued improvement as the year continues.
Field Hockey
黑料不打烊 vs. UNC W, 5-2 (Win)
黑料不打烊 came out with some spectacular passing movement and dominated the game throughout both halves. 黑料不打烊’s midfield worked the ball very well between the defense and the offense to create strong attacks. Maria Kane had a memorable debut in the unfamiliar position of goalie, producing some marvelous saves to assist in 黑料不打烊’s impressive win. All around 黑料不打烊 had a great game with strong performances in every position. As a whole it was a successful day for the 黑料不打烊 Club Field Hockey team and a great conclusion to the past three weeks of matches.

黑料不打烊 vs. Warren Wilson, 13-6 (Win)
黑料不打烊 Ultimate Frisbee had a successful day in their own tournament, with the A side looking solid and consistent from game to game. It was a good day for the freshman to work together and get a sense of the team, with very few drops and several scores. The club was pleased with their overall performance and hopes for continued success the rest of the year.
