Women’s Rugby Dominates Guilford College
Women’s Rugby
ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ vs. Guilford College, 43-10 (Win)
ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s Women’s Rugby Club earned a big victory at Guilford College Saturday despite terrible field conditions. Rhi Clark led the team with 6 tries while Brittany Siciliano kicked for 12 points. Newcomer Alli Schmidt scored her first try of the season. The team’s next match will be on the road Saturday against UNC-Greensboro.
Equestrian
This weekend, the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Equestrian Club hosted their first show ever since their move to Townsend Farms. The show included various schools in Zone 4 of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association. ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ riders Alli Morris and Sian Rucker won their respective classes. According to club president Meghan Stevens, this was the club’s best show experience of the season.
Field Hockey
ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ vs. UNC-Chapel Hill, 1-3 (Loss)
ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s Field Hockey Club travelled to UNC-Chapel Hill Sunday and was defeated 3-1. The team played without subs for the first time this season, but was able to hold the score to 3-0 most of the game. Molly Strayer had some big saves to help keep ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ in the game. Steffi Morello had the lone ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ goal right before time expired. The Field Hockey Club will have a rematch against UNC when they play in a round robin at Davidson on Sunday February 21.
Men’s Lacrosse
ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ vs. Dayton, 9-10 (OT-Loss)
ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ vs. Grove City, 5-8 (Loss)
The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Men’s Lacrosse Club suffered two tough losses this weekend as they battled Dayton and Grove City in Mason, Ohio. In Friday night’s game, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ had a strong showing against Dayton who is ranked #2 in the country. ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter and led the game or was tied for most of the match. Riley Bonsall led ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ with 4 goals and 1 assist as ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ lost in overtime on a bizarre goal by Dayton.
In Saturday’s game against Grove City, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ was noticeably fatigued from the game against Dayton the night before. Despite jumping ahead to another quick 2-0 lead, Dayton led by at least a goal for most of the second half. Colin Madden led ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ with 2 goals and 3 assists. The club’s next matchup will be against East Carolina at home on February 26.
Men’s Rugby
ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ vs. Guilford College, 12-22 (Loss)
ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Men’s Rugby fell to Guilford College Saturday despite jumping to a quick 5-0 lead on Michael Gallagher’s first career try. With the poor field conditions, Guilford had the home field advantage and scored 17 unanswered points. Chris Adam’s try making the score 17-12 was not enough to amount a comeback as the Men’s Rugby Club eventually fell 22-12. Their next match is against UNC-Greensboro at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ this Saturday at 4:30pm at the South Campus Club Sports Fields.
Women’s Ultimate
Queen City TuneUp Tournament – Charlotte, NC
ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ (0-5) – Georgia, Delaware, William & Mary, UNC-W, Brandeis
The Women’s Ultimate Frisbee Club had an opportunity to face a number of nationally ranked teams this weekend at the Queen City TuneUp Tournament in Charlotte. Despite losing their matches, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ had a great comeback against Brandeis University in their last game only losing by a score of 8-6. Field conditions were an issue for all teams as ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ faced UGA, Delaware, and William & Mary in about three inches of snow. The women’s team will play at the Hellfish Bonanza tournament this upcoming weekend at James Madison University.
Men’s Ultimate
ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ – 8th Place Overall (1-3)
On Saturday, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s Men’s Ultimate Frisbee Club faced off in a tournament in Wilmington, NC. Despite playing in over four inches of snow, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ was able to defeat George Mason, but they fell to Salisbury, JMU, and Rutgers. Matches were not played on Sunday because of field conditions. The club will compete next in Charleston, SC.
