RecycleMania 2009 results for Week 2

Results are in for ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ during the second week of RecyleMania 2009, a 10-week competition taking part on campuses across the nation to reduce waste and raise awareness about recycling. The university is now ahead of the volume it recycled (by more than 1,100 pounds) since the same stage of the contest last spring.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ recycled 11,262 pounds of materials in the second official week (the first two weeks of RecycleMania were considered trial weeks). The university’s total now stands at 21,184 pounds for the contest to date. The results place ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ 149th out of 397 reported schools for total weight volume captured.

Per Capita Classic

Overall, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ placed 98 out of the 397 reported entries nationwide with a 4.17-pound per capita weight volume. ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ placed second in North Carolina (and second in the Southern Conference) in the category.

Targeted Materials: Aluminum/Plastic/Glass

Overall, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ placed FIRST out 262 reporting entries nationwide for this category with a 1.16 pounds per capita weight volume with a two-week total of 2,760 pounds of recycled material.

Targeted Materials: Cardboard

Overall, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ placed No. 65 out of the 249 entries with 1.51 pounds per capita weight volume and 5,480 pounds recycled to date. In the state, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ placed No. 1, and it ranks No. 2 in the Southern Conference.

Among private colleges and universities, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ placed No. 42 out of 104 entries.

Targeted Materials Paper

Overall, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ placed No. 90 out of 262 entries with a 1.49 pounds per capita weight volume, third in the state and second in the Southern Conference for the same category. Among private colleges and universities, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ placed No. 44 out of 112 entries.
