Young Commons Dedication

An attractive, central area of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ's campus was dedicated Young Commons Oct. 10. Details...

The dedication recognizes the contributions of former ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ president Fred Young and his wife, Phyllis.

During dedication ceremonies held outside Moseley Center, Young attributed his success to the work of faculty, staff and students during his tenure, and said he sees a bright future for ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ.

“My best wishes to you all as you thrust ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ into a position of national leadership in education in the coming years,” Young said.

Young Commons is located north of Haggard Avenue on the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ campus. The area is framed by three structures: Koury Center, Moseley Center and the new Belk Library. A 30-foot-long seating wall, special landscaping and a wall identifying “Young Commons” has been constructed near the Moseley Center entrance. Young Commons also offers a view of the quadrangle of the original campus south of Haggard Avenue.

Fred Young retired as ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s seventh president in December 1998 after a tenure which witnessed a period of growth unprecedented in the college’s history. The size of the campus tripled, student enrollment doubled, and dozens of new academic and student life programs enhanced the curriculum.
