More than 225 members of the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ community helped operate a concessions tent at the 105th U.S. Open golf championship, held June 13-19 at Pinehurst No. 2 in Pinehurst, N.C.
Hal Walker, associate professor of leisure and sport management, organized the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ volunteers and worked closely with USGA officials to coordinate the effort. Walker says more than 55 percent of the 8-hour work shifts during the week were covered by ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ students, and more than 30 faculty and staff members volunteered.
ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s leisure and sport management program will receive a portion of the stand’s proceeds during the week, which will benefit a merit and need-based endowed scholarship being established by the department.
