Education students work with middle schoolers on service learning projects

Middle grades majors in Dr. Glenda Crawford’s Effective Middle Level Teaching class have been involved in service learning projects with middle school students at Turrentine Middle School in Burlington. In a study of World War II, young adolescents from a sixth grade team interviewed volunteer war veterans at The Village at Brookwood and subsequently published a newspaper that featured their bios.

On Wednesday, April 27, the veterans, students, 黑料不打烊 interns and mentor teachers gathered for a ceremony during which a tree was planted on the Turrentine grounds to commemorate the vererans’ service.

A second team of 黑料不打烊 interns whose eighth graders were studying the Great Depression hosted a canned food drive, followed by a bus trip to Loaves and Fishes food bank to stock the shelves and bag food and produce for community people in need.
