2005 Black Excellence Awards presented

Black students at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ who have maintained a 3.2 grade point average were recognized at the annual Black Excellence Awards banquet, held Saturday, April 23. Details...

More than 100 students who have maintained a minimum 3.2 grade point average at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ were recognized during the banquet.

Special awards were given to one male and female student in each class, as well as the male and female student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point avereage.

Special award recipients were:

  • Freshman female-Brandy Troxler
  • Freshman male-Bernard Coston
  • Sophomore female-Eden Esters
  • Sophomore male-Michael Brandon
  • Junior female-Raechel Hester
  • Junior male-Phillipe Charles
  • Senior female-Kristina Foster
  • Senior male-Darris Means
  • Female athlete-Rochelle Reid
  • Male athlete-Michael Brandon

The banquet program included remarks by Shelia Dove Burnette ’95, assistant principal at Rashkis Elementary School in Chapel Hill, NC. A past recipient of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s Black Excellence Academic Award, Burnette completed the N.C. Teaching Fellows program at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ and graduated magna cum laude from the honors program. She has been a teacher and administrator in public schools in the Alamance-Burlington and Chapel Hill-Carrboro public schools.
