A variety of events have been planned leading up to the opening of Rhodes Stadium at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ. After a week of festivities, the Phoenix will officially open the stadium Saturday, Sept. 15, hosting Eastern Kentucky University in a 2 p.m. game. The opening of the 8,250-seat, $13 million facility will mark the first time since 1909 that a football game has been played on the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ campus.
Listed below are events planned for the week of the stadium opening:
- Tuesday, Sept. 11
9:40 a.m.-Special College Coffee to celebrate stadium opening, Fonville Fountain. Members of the football team and ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s new marching band, “The Fire of the Carolinas,” will be on hand for ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s weekly community gathering.
Friday, Sept. 14
1:30 p.m.-Dedication of Macy sports medicine room, Koury Fieldhouse
6:30 p.m.-Major donor dinner, Woods Center press box, Rhodes Stadium
9 p.m.-Opening celebration and laser show, Rhodes Stadium. This event is open to the public.
10 p.m.-Comedian Jay Mohr live in Alumni Gym. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased by calling the Office of Student Life at 278-7200.
Saturday, Sept. 15
10:30 a.m.-Parking lots open
11:30 a.m.-Tailgating begins On the Green behind Moseley Center
11:30 a.m.-Dedication of Theos Arch at Rhodes Stadium
Noon-Stadium ticket office opens
12:30 p.m.-Stadium gates open
1:55 p.m.-Rhodes Stadium dedication
2:02 p.m.-Commemorative coin toss
