Attorney to discuss same-sex marriages during Feb. 28 lecture

Beth Robinson, an attorney on a landmark same-sex marriage court case in Vermont, will discuss the topic during a speech titled “Changing Minds, Changing Times: Winning the Argument for Same-Sex Marriage in Vermont,” at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 28 in Yeager Recital Hall, located on the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ campus in the Faith Rockefeller Model Center for the Arts. The speech is free and open to the public.

Robinson won recognition for civil unions between same-sex partners as the lead attorney in Baker vs. Vermont, which was argued before the Vermont Supreme Court in November 1998. Civil unions allow same-sex partners in Vermont to enjoy the same benefits and protections under the law that are afforded to opposite sex, married couples.

A graduate of Dartmouth College and the University of Chicago law school, Robinson founded the Vermont Freedom to Marry Task Force. Robinson is a partner in the law firm of Langrock, Sperry and Wool in Middlebury, Vt., where she practices family law.

Robinson’s speech is sponsored by ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s Women and Gender Studies Program and the Center for Public Affairs.
